What's the difference between basement finishing and a basement renovation?
Basement finishing usually means taking raw space with concrete walls and open joists and turning it into finished rooms for the first time. A basement renovation means changing a space that's already finished, or gutting one that was done badly. We do both. The build is similar; the difference is how much comes out before anything goes in.

How do you stop a finished basement from smelling damp?
The smell is almost never the room. It's moisture moving through concrete and condensing behind the finishes. We find the source first, then use proper drainage, vapour control and below-grade insulation so warm air never meets a cold surface. Get that right and the basement smells like the rest of the house.
Can you add a bathroom, a wet bar or a home gym?
All three are common. A bathroom or wet bar means plumbing, and where the existing drain sits decides how involved that gets. A home gym mainly means a floor that can take the load and enough ceiling height to stand and press overhead. We'll tell you honestly what your basement can carry before you commit.
Does finishing the lower level add value to my home?
It's one of the better-returning projects you can do, for two reasons. You gain livable square footage without extending the footprint or touching the roof. And if the space is built as a legal second unit, it can carry rental income that changes what the mortgage feels like every month. Buyers and appraisers treat properly permitted, properly finished space very differently from a damp storage area with a carpet in it.
How much ceiling height do I need down there?
Enough that the finished room feels like a room and not a crawlspace, and enough to satisfy the code for whatever you're building. Height is one of the first things we measure, because it decides what's realistic: ductwork can sometimes be rerouted, beams can occasionally be boxed differently, and in some homes the floor can be lowered.
